Dear Parents,
These are the skills we will be working on this week.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Unit 2 Theme: The Whole Wide World
Story: Tornado Alert
Skills: context clues, homophones, nouns as subjects, synonyms, digraph ou, diphthong ou, nouns as predicates, compound subjects, singular and plural nouns, and ongoing review from previous lessons.
Math
Unit 4: Multiplication and Division (finish the unit) Test this week.
Skills: Multiples of equal groups, multiple arrays, equal shares and equal groups, division ties to multiplication, the multiplication/division facts table, fact families, and estimating distances with a map scale.

***Math grades will not go home (only math tests. Grades come from daily oral assessment.
Science (Working on Research Project) Diorama and paragraph due Dec. 15th
Unit 4: Food Chains (Test January 29th) We will use pages B2-B37 in the science book.
Skills and vocabulary: system, organisms, decomposers, cosumers, producers, carnivores, omnivores, herbivores, habitat, predator, prey, terrestrial and aquatic food chains... ***SEE STUDY GUIDE FOR MORE DETAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Please help your child make flash cards and/or matching cards. Play a few minutes each night. Explore the internet with the vocabulary).
HEDLEY'S HEADLINES - Unit on ancient civilizations: She will cover Greece, Rome, and Mali. This unit will take 9 weeks but it will involve 3 tests (one for each civilization covered).
STUDENTS: ANSWER THE BUZZ QUESTION ON PAPER BY WEDNESDAY AND GET TWO EXTRA PENNIES: What are guide words?
STUDENTS SHOULD BE PRACTICING THEIR MULTIPLICATION TABLES UP TO 12. PLEASE BUY OR MAKE FLASH CARDS TO KEEP AT HOME AND PRACTICE. (Banana Split Party for multiplication tables is in June)
ENCOURAGE RESPONSIBILITY AND INDEPENDENCE TO COMPLETE AND RETURN HOMEWORK EACH NIGHT. ( Use homework as a chance for you and your child to go over weak areas at home). Homework is a great review of lessons taught.
