Dear Parents,

These are the skills we will be working on this week.


LANGUAGE ARTS

Unit 2 Theme:  The Whole Wide World
Story:  Fly Traps!
Skills:  compound words, simple and complete subjects, compound subjects, nouns, main idea, and supporting details, and ongoing review from previous lessons.

MATH
Unit 4:  Multiplication and Division 

Skills:  Multiples of equal groups, multiple arrays, equal shares and equal groups, division ties to multiplication, the multiplication/division facts table, fact families, and estimating distances with a map scale.

***Math grades will not go home (only math tests.  Grades come from daily oral assessment.

 


SCIENCE
Unit 4:  Food Chains
 
We will use pages B2-B37 in the science book.  Vocabulary:  systems, organism, food chain, decomposers, consumers, producers, carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, habitat, predator, prey, aquatic and terrestrial ***EACH STUDY GUIDE WILL HAVE MORE DETAILS.  Please help your child make flash cards, study cards, and/or explore the internet with the terms and vocabulary. 


SOCIAL STUDIES
Unit 2:  Ancient Civilizations - Greece, Rome, and Mali
This unit will take about 9 weeks.  It will involve 3 tests (one for each civilization covered).  Review week for ancient Mali Test:  Dec. 4th

STUDENTS:  ANSWER THE BUZZ QUESTION ON PAPER  BY WEDNESDAY AND GET TWO EXTRA PENNIES:  Can a zebra camouflage?

Students should have started practicing for their multiplication tables up to 12.  Please buy or make flash cards to keep at home and practice.

ENCOURAGE RESPONSIBILITY AND INDEPENDENCE TO COMPLETE AND RETURN HOMEWORK EACH NIGHT.  ( Use homework as a chance for you and your child to go over weak areas at home).  Homework is a great review of lessons taught.
